Our story

Former media executive Aziza Albou founded AZ Media Communications in 2015 with a deep-seated passion to nurture a more balanced and accurate image of emerging economies in the US and other developed markets. The agency’s first projects included providing advisory services in English and French to both business and political clients with ties to Africa and the US.

Our growth

As we have grown, AZ Media Communications has expanded its reach, portfolio, client-base and focus areas to include clients around the world, in our backyard of the New York-Montreal corridor, as well as London and Johannesburg.

Aziza Albou Traoré

Founder & CEO

Aziza moved from France to the United States in 2009 and worked as an account manager at The Network Journal, a business magazine. She has held various positions, from marketing to writing and programming, for major international media (Jeune Afrique, Forbes, Africa 24). In 2011, she became the first representative for Groupe Jeune Afrique in North America, openingd their office in New York City. She recognized the need for a more positive and accurate representation of emerging markets abroad and the importance for these markets to handle media exposure more professionally. Aziza then began providing communication advisory services to clients in Africa and the United States. With AZ Media Communications she aims to extend her services to an even greated international level. Aziza has a Master’s Degree in Communication from the French Institute of Press in Paris. While still living in France, she was in charge of financing and production for a contemporary art center. In 2013, she completed a program in broadcast journalism at the New York Film Academy.

Senior Strategist

Scott is a strategic marketing leader and proven catalyst for performance improvement with a reputation for successfully leading complex marketing programs that demand critical analysis, team alignment, agility and bottom-line results. A forward-thinking expert in business-to-business content marketing and brand strategy with 25+ years experience in agency, corporate and association environments, he has an extensive portfolio of international work. Scott is a recognized expert in strategy creation and execution, change management, organizational alignment and engagement, marketing automation, and go-to-market strategies that deliver bottom-line results. His vertical market expertise includes professional services, IT, telecommunications, financial services, industrial chemicals, healthcare and building products.

Neil Ferguson

Communication Director

Neil is a seasoned journalist working out of Johannesburg, South Africa. His thirty years in media have seen him travel Africa widely, providing training and guidance for TV news professionals around the continent. Neil has held senior positions such as Executive Producer, Bulletin Editor and Chief Sub-Editor at the South African Broadcasting Corporation, 702 Talk Radio, independent 24-hour news channel, eNCA and production company, Urban Brew Studios. He has also owned a media company offering public relations and writing services, TV and radio production and media training. Over the years he has developed an in-depth knowledge of local, African and international news and media. Neil is also the co-author of an extensive TV News writing course. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Political Studies and Psychology from the University of the Witwatersrand, and a post-graduate degree in Psychology.

Geet Bhatt

Investor specialist

Geet Bhatt is an investor, advisor and entrepreneur from the United States. He brings six years of experience as a financier with a background in investment banking and principal investing in the energy sector having completed over US$4 billion worth of transactions in the United States, South America and Sub-Saharan Africa. He has previously worked at KawiSafi Ventures, the International Finance Corporation and Marathon Capital. He brings hands-on experience of working with boards and management teams of emerging market companies to scale and grow. In addition, Geet has advised companies and governments throughout Sub-Saharan Africa on energy sector strategy, development matters and media relations. He graduated with honors from Emory University and is pursuing an MBA at The Wharton School.

Sulaiman Philip

Media Manager

With over 20 years as a journalist, Sulaiman has covered sport, business, crime and entertainment in South Africa and the US. His work experience extends beyond traditional print media to include work in web design and content creation for digital platforms. Sulaiman has developed media and content strategies for major African brands and foundations. Building on his Communication and Journalism degrees and work experience, he has branched into TV and documentary production. This wealth of experience makes him an expert in, and give hiom a great understanding of, multiple media platforms and how best to harness them to maximise clients' reach.
